The Vice Chair of the UK Parliament Human Rights Group agreed he would raise the issue of casteism.

    David Haslam, UK DSN

The UK Dalit Solidarity Network, in association with VODI, held an hour-long Vigil outside the Indian High Commission today July 2nd. Nearly 100 people attended, including a coach-load from Birmingham. There were many placards saying, 'Caste is bonded labour', Casteism is racism', 'Dalit Rights are Human rights' and 'Discuss caste at WCAR'. Representatives of at least a dozen Dalit organisations attended, as did Jeremy Corbyn MP. A representative delegation of five went in to the High Commission at 1.30 to hand in a letter with the Statement drafted by Tim Gill of AHRC. We met with Mr Haldane, Political Counsellor, who promised to convey the contents of the Statement and our comments to his Government. Jeremy Corbyn, who is Vice Chair of the UK Parliament Human Rights Group agreed he would raise the issue of casteism once more in that Group.
